A Handshake Across Time

2020-2025
Photograph, framed
297mm × 420mm

This was the last photograph I took with my grandmother, who passed away from late-stage cervical cancer in 2020. I remember asking her what chemotherapy felt like.
“It’s cold,” she said.

Five years later, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was lucky—it was found early. But returning to this image now, I feel a quiet ache.
I didn’t know then it would be our final photo. Now, I see more than just a moment:
a hand reaching out across time, across pain, across bloodline.

We were closer than I understood.
